Scything and raking the riverbanks: River Foss - Huntington Road
Wednesday 4th March 10am-12.30pm
Join us on the River Foss and help to improve the riverbanks by mowing the grass with scythes. We also need to rake and remove the cuttings, making room for native wildflowers and plants which, in turn, support other species like bees, butterflies and water voles. Full scythe training given on the day so no experience necessary!
This session will take place along the riverbanks that run through York St John's nature area, just off Huntington Road). We will meet at the footbridge directly opposite 350 Huntington Road (https://what3words.com/twist.curl.senses). We are able to use the YSJ sports centre which is about a 10 minute walk away. There are toilets here we can use and a little cafe for lunch.
The session is suitable for groups up to 15 people. If your group is bigger than this, please get in touch and we will see what we can do.
If there are any health or mobility issues within your group that may affect someone carrying out the task, please get in touch and we will see what we can do to support you as there may be alternative tasks available. However not all tasks and sites are fully accessible.
